Leighton Buzzard Carnival 2013

Leighton Buzzard Carnival 2012
The 2013 Leighton Linslade Carnival took place on Saturday 13th July. The theme for this year’s carnival was Children’s Books.

The weather was superb, the hottest day of the year so far with clear blue skies and sunshine all day. In fact it was so warm that a water station was set up along Leston Road for the people manning the procession floats. Some of the costumes were very heavy and the weather was scorching. Particular mention for Town Crier Peter Hailes who walked the procession route dressed in his full ceremonial costume including a heavy cape.

The procession of floats left Cedars School in Mentmore Road at 12 noon and followed the route: Mentmore Road, Wing Road, Leighton Road, West Street, Leston Road, Hockliffe Street, Hockliffe Road, Brooklands Drive, Brooklands Avenue, Stanbridge Road, Lake Street, Grove Road ending up in Parsons Close Recreation Ground. The procession was led by Nexus Drum and Bugle Band who also performed in the arena in Parsons Close. Great entertainment in the arena was also provided by Voodoo Extreme Unicycles, Harlequins Gymnastics Team, Pop Ya Collar, Curtain Call Theatre Company, Tenacity Dance Display plus the ever popular Field Gun Challenge.

The bandstand was also busy with entertaining performances from Christine and the Stackyard Stompers, Crazy Colin and Leighton Linslade Music Centre. A fairground provided excitement for visitors and the splashdown paddling area was very popular with small children due to the hot weather.
Stalls in Parsons Close provided everything from a coconut shy to giant inflatable slide for the children. This was a great day and the perfect weather drew out the crowds.
