NO Cold Calling Zone

To try and reduce the numbers of distraction burglars and other unwanted callers, Bedfordshire County Council have introduced No Cold Calling Zones throughout the area. There are now over 40 zones with the largest covering the whole of Dunstable. This is good news for older residents as they are often targeted by bogus callers.

If you are resident in a No Cold Calling Zone you will be given an information pack with details of how to say no to unwelcome callers. The pack also contains a door sticker with telephone numbers of the Councils Trading Standards Service and the Police, this helps homeowners to check the identity of a caller.

There is also a rapid response team called - Bogus? Phone Us. This team includes Special Constables who are working alongside Trading Standards Officers. Their hotline telephone number is - 08454 05 05 06. The team has already intercepted bogus builders from London who tried to deceive residents into agreeing to unnecessary and expensive repairs. The builders are now facing charges of deception.
